Students choose to attend McKelvey Engineering because of the strength of its academics and research, an environment that encourages exploration, and the opportunity to collaborate with innovative peers and faculty. These students draw from all fields—from computer science and bioengineering to materials science and clean energy—to meet today’s most critical challenges and to prepare for those of the future.

Scholarships help make a top-tier educational experience attainable for engineering students from all backgrounds, regardless of their financial circumstances. The goal of an endowed scholarship is to ensure that resources for student support will always be available. Almost half of engineering undergraduates and a majority of graduate students receive financial assistance. A unique bond often develops between sponsors and students and the awards often inspire recipients to help future generations of students. Endowed scholarships create a lasting legacy, continuing to benefit students for as long as the university endures.

Annual Scholarship Support: Variable Match

For every dollar committed to annual engineering scholarships, the challenge will provide a variable match to support the McKelvey Scholarship Endowment.

The Scholars in Engineering program offers the opportunity to sponsor a named scholarship on an annual basis. Scholarships may be named in honor of the donor or another person of their choosing. Although the donor may choose to renew their annual scholarship each year, the university encourages donors to make multi-year commitments in order to provide support for the same student throughout their time at the university.

An annual fund gift of $5,000 or more may support a named annual scholarship. Named scholarship sponsors have the opportunity to be paired with a student and get to know the student through events such as the annual Scholars in Engineering Dinner.

In addition, annual fund scholarship gifts of $1,000 or more qualify donors for membership in the William Greenleaf Eliot Society. Members of the Eliot Society comprise a network of individuals who believe in Washington University and help to maintain its continued excellence through their generous support.
